I've been working with an uncalibrated monitor for too long. I'm planning on purchasing a softwear but don't know where to even begin. Anyone have good luck with a certain one?

I'd definitely recommend that you buy a hardware calibrator. There are a number of brands on the market such as Spyder, Eye One, etc.
Generally the cheaper the monitor, the more expensive the calibrator will need to be. A good monitor can get by with one of the inexpensive calibrators like the huey, while a laptop or other cheap monitor will probably be resistant to calibration except by some of the best equipment. |
