Oh I totally agree... just makes a better wallpaper imo Here's the crop of the original shot, I didn't resize it, just cropped to the dimensions I upload to flickr. Added unsharpen mask of 250% as well...

If you're in England it's a clear sky at the moment and a big, close moon.

Full moon

Another take on the moon...

Moon Clouds Trees

I snapped this one with my 50mm f1/1.8 this morning on my way to work. I seem to have missed the full moon opportunities last week.

Here is my best moon shot so far - I think this is about as close as my 70-300mm will take me:

Here's my shot of the Harvest Moon from back in September. Heavily cropped and from my 18-135mm which is my longest lens right now.

Wulf, have you tried sharpening? I did a ton of post-processing and I sharpened (as well as converted to B&W) when I was struggling to get the moon with my EF 75-300 III. I probably overdid the sharpening, but the results made me reasonably happy:

full moon

Also, maybe try shooting at the lowest iso you can?

It had some sharpening. Lower ISO would help - I hadn't changed my setting back after taking some shots indoors.

I took this one on the first day of the new year. I don't have a zoom lens so I went for a wide shot instead. I made it lighter a bit so you could see the windchime in the top/middle of the shot.

Moon 1

Exposure: 15 sec (15)
Aperture: f/2.6
Focal Length: 5.8 mm
Exposure Bias: 0/3 EV
