Had a chance to shoot the Moon in the morning before I went to office at 6 AM. After taken 40x shots with standard Canon PS S3 IS (no filter & no tripod), I selected 3 of them with different exposures. Layered those 3 photos in photoshop, curve, sharpen and crop.
Here is the face of the Moon from my home in Jakarta, Indonesia.

My 1st try -
April Fool's Day (Full Moon was April 2nd) ![]() The moon was still waxing to full, but a clear night so I shot. Many different settings, handheld (didn't have a tripod yet), 18-250mm lens. This one came out best; unfortunately, I didn't have a good editing program then & Picasa stripped the EXIF data so I have to go thru the same experimental process next time. ![]() Below is some moon trivia I found for those preparing to give this a try: Next Full Moons- June 30/ July 30/ Aug 28/ Sep 26/ Oct 26/ Nov 24/ Dec 24 Honey Moon The June full moon was called the Mead or Honey moon. The name derives from the hives being full of honey at this time of the year. The honey would have been fermented and made into mead. Traditionally, a honey drink was taken after wedding ceremonies held on the Summer Solstice. This is the derivation of 'honeymoon'. Blue Moon Due to the moon's cycle being 29½ days, there are occasionally - as in July 2004 - two full moons in one month (only happens on average every 2.7 years). Then the second moon of the month is called a 'blue moon'. The next blue moon will be in June 2007. There will be two blue moons in 2018. Dark Moon When two new moons occur in a month, the second is called a 'dark moon'. The new moon is also sometimes called the dark moon - at this phase there is no illumination on the earth's side. Harvest Moon The full moon nearest to the Autumn Equinox is called the 'Harvest moon'. This is because for several nights it appears large and bright in the early evening, bringing farmers valuable extra time to gather in their harvest. The Celtic year was once divided into 13 months - one for each moon occuring during the year.

This is an image I took three years ago with my 10D and Meade ETX90 telescope. The image hasn't been cropped so the moon is about full frame. The effective focal length is 1250mm at f13.8. I didn't use mirror lockup, timer, or even a remote shutter - which is why is it a little blurry. I have just recently got my telescope back from being fixed, so will try and get a sharper picture.
Cheers Gav

Here is my most recent attempt, from just over a week ago:
![]() This was actually shot late afternoon while the moon was set against a blue sky but I underexposed the picture and then applied further processing to sharpen it up a bit. Wulf |
