Default Tips for shooting Golf

I've been asked to attend a golf tournament next weekend and get some "candid" shots of people playing golf.

I'm just wondering if anyone has any tips on settings to use for something like this other than just using "auto" or "sports" mode? I'm shooting with a Nikon D60 (which I'm still getting use to using).

The weather here lately is pretty overcast most of the time and I'm expecting it will be that way next weekend as well.

Any tips/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Im no pro but if it's candid and it's golf you could do a bit of landscaping while adding people to the scene

I'd recommend you google golf images to have some ideas of what you can do, as it is "candid" thus you won't have the people posing for you but I guess you could either find specific moments when players and other people are more "still" (when players are about to hit the ball for example).

Im unsure wether you should use auto, perhaps sports is better, I guess you could try a few shots with Tv mode (Time Value priority) and if there's enough light try some 1/40-1/70 values. You could also refer to your user manual (if still have it) it can tell you a lot about what your camera can and can't do and give you some tips on speed and other values settings.

Hope it helps =)

*EDIT: Keep in mind that a blurry picture isn't always bad as it gives the sensation of movement, for example if subjetc's body looks still but arms have a motion blur on them the image will get a very dynamic look and feel to it =)

And remember not to shoot while the golfer is taking his/her shot, or you and your equipment could suffer!!

This is where an advanced compact camera ( Olympus xx-xx; or Canon G series)is handy-turn of the beeps and shutter makes no noise-take shots while golfers are taking theirs!
