Exclamation Beach or no Beach

Hi Everyone,
I once went to the beach & i took just a simple Digital Camera with me.
while i was on the beach i was changing memory Cards & changing batteries.
When i got back to the hotel room that day. My Digital camera was messed up & still is.
I would love to go down to Galveston & take my DLSR but im worried that what happened with my other camera is going to happen to my DSLR but not as bad.
For those out there that use a DSLR on the beach how do u keep the sand out of the lens & the camera itself?
Any Tips? Warnings? articles? Pros & Cons?
Thanks

Did you figure out what was wrong with the camera? Perhaps moisture got inside while you were changing batteries/memory card.

If I'm on a beach I don't change batteries/memory cards/lenses.

Tips:

Have fully charged batteries already in the camera.

Same for the memory card - make sure there's lots of space available.

I don't change my lens on the beach. If appropriate shelter isn't available, I'll walk back to my vehicle and sit inside with the windows up, then change the lens.

My camera got sand in it & the lens protector doesn't close all the way & on the back of the camera it sometimes hard to push the buttons cause sand got in there too. & the camera that got sand in it was a point & shoot type camera.

i ruined a point and shoot like that. it got sand in the lens somehow.. i didn't open anything, didn't really do anything with it. i have no idea how it happened. maybe the zoom in / out got it. they say that's one of the things to look out for. i took my 18 - 105 to the beach in costa rica earlier this year. i didn't open it or or change lenses or anything though and only had it out of the bag when it was being used. i also had a ziplock bag i kept it in down there, just in case. the one day i took it to the beach, i fired off a bunch of shots then hiked back to my hotel to drop it off so i could play in the ocean like people are supposed to and not worry about my camera getting damaged or stolen.
