Blown Out Sky.

First off, sorry about reposting this image, but it is an example of what has been happening to me whenever I shoot towards the sun. How do I photograph images that are backlight and still have the sky visible?

There's a reason that you're told to avoid backlighting whenever possible: you can't get the backlit area and the subject both exposed reasonably. You just can't. You have to choose one or the other. You chose the truck. That's the best that you can do.

There are HDR (high dynamic range) techniques that involve taking a series of shots on a tripod at different shutter speeds, then combining them in software. For this kind of photo, I don't think that it'd be worth it. But then, I'm not a fan of HDR photos anyway.
