I am right handed but left eye dominate. I do everything that involves aim with my left eye. This includes photography, target shooting, billiards, darts etc. The only time I do photography with my right eye is if I am shooting something where there is a chance of injury if I am not paying attention the the world around me. IE if I am on the sidelines of a sporting event where at any moment some guy can run me over. In those cases I shoot right eye to view finder with both eyes open.

I wear glasses and use my left eye. It feels more natural, even though it's the eye that needs the prescription. I don't know if it's because I'm left handed and do everything with my left. I could never play baseball/softball because I have to throw AND catch with my left hand. My right hand and arm were in a cast when I was 18 months old. Don't know if that played a part in developing my dominant hand. I'm the only lefty in the family.

I am guessing it is more about which eye is your dominant eye. Best way to tell is extend your arm and point your index finger straight up with both eyes open line up your finger with some distant object a candlestick or lightpost or tree. Then alternate closing your eyes. Your finger will not move off of the object when your dominant eye is open but it will move when your other eye is open,
In my case I am left-handed and my left eye is my dominant eye. Pretty sure that is not always the case... Actually I was curious and found this wikipedia article about ocular dominance Last edited by Sweetlifephoto; 03-16-2012 at 08:04 PM. Reason: Update |

I too use my left eye as it is my strongest. My right eye is lazy and even with contacts in I find my left much more dominant.

anyone associate left / right eye with right/left brain. Then associate left/right brain with art/science..it could be a very interesting study to study the photography talent / artistic / technical and connect it with left/right eye.. And, it could be associated with female/male, age, right handed / left handed, Nikon / canon, etc what ever you can think off.. Use SPSS for such statistical analysis the best i think LOL
A Generalization could be formed explaining why one using left, but others using right or both... ;D LOL Therefore, I think the poll is not that useful if you don't gather the voters' detail, as it provides no research value. Anyway i never see frame via viewfinder, i close both of my eyes, and shot randomly see numbers from my internal heart, and hoping for miracles
