Default Newbie question about auto and manual shooting

Hello guys. I must say that I'm very new to photography so probably my question is quite stupid. Although I want to know the answer anyway.

Yesterday I was testing manual aperture priority settings on my canon 450d and find out that the same settings as they were in auto mode give different results. In auto mode the image was looking much more warm. Why it's so?

Because in auto mode your camera does your thinking for you-it chooses shutter speed/aperture combinations, and white balance-so it seems your camera chose a different white balance than the one you set for manual mode.

Ideally, for most images, you should use A/Av mode- as you set the aperture, and adjusts shutter speed to match-your choice of aperture decides your depth of field (amount of image which appears in acceptable focus) - and for capturing action: TV/S mode where you set shutter speed and matches ideal aperture. Regards, Ken

Thanks, Ken. White balance is what I've missed.
By the way, are there something useful to read about how to set it up better?

Hi!
Go to the DPS homepage, click on the tab named "Photography Tips & Tutorials" and click on "Digital Photography Tips for Beginners". You´ll find loads of useful information, including the white balance stuff.

i always shoot a few pictures in auto mode, then a few on manual. i then compare them. if i like the auto mode photos, i write the settings down and try it on manual to recreate the photo.

you can never take enough photos
