Default Hdr

ok, i've thought about trying HDR photos but i have some questions... firstly, i use aperture but i want photoshop, i just want want to pay 700 for it... should i order the HDRSoft plug-in for aperature or just wait until i get photoshop or go ahead and buy the stand alone HDRSoft program? secondly, what should i have camera set on? will program auto be ok or should i use aperature priority or shutter priority or go totally manual? thirdly, once i have the proper settings, what is the minimum number of exposures i should bracket for and should i go in 1/3, 1/2, or whole stops? fourthly, i've noticed some hdr photos with halos around objects... how do i get rid of this to make it look more natural? can aperture do that or the HDRSoft program? or is photoshop the only thing that i can use for that? fifth, what about moving clouds and things that change from one bracketed photo to the next? i know this is a lot of questions... thanks for your help? oh, and can you make portraits that are HDR?

To create an HDRI, the best possible way I can think of is to mount a camera onto a tripod and take snaps of all four directions(front, right, back, left) using a Fish eye lens. Then load these images into a software called PTGui(which is free to try) and generate your master piece.

Use a stand alone program like Gimp which is free to use

secondly, what should i have camera set on?
I take them with my pentax k200d which is set on av mode.... your d700 should have a similar mode, Also set your drive mode to auto bracketing. on my pentax it comes up with a set of 3 exposures. not sure what it has on the nikon

av mode is aperture priority mode already, you can use shutter priority BUT it means turning the shutter faster or slower and it can affect the final outcome of the picture, never use full manual on HDR as it just doesn't work

turn your camera onto evb ( exposure bracketing) and adjust the stops from there. your can either use 1/2 or 1/3 and either 3-5 shot6s usually do the job

that is usually taken care off in the software your using, either gimp or photoshop ( if you have it by now) or as i use. photomatix

Yes you can but the skin doesn't turn out very good even though i've seen some great examples

good luck, hope this helps out a bit
cheers
