Recently i shot a picture of my grandchild with my new Fuji s100fs camera with an iso400 setting. This was taken in the room at room lighting, curtains closed. The image looked very grainy (could see the pixels). It was mentioned that i should lower my iso to 100.In doing so the picture became quite dark.Is there anyone who can advise me on how to correct this shot.

Unless you want an artistically dark image, use as much natural light as you can. Open the blinds/curtains. Turn on available lights. Then position your subject in a not-so-bright area of the room.
Noise is very noticible in dark environments. If you take a picture of a dark room, and take a picture outside using the exact same settings, you'll notice the grain more in the dark room picture. So in the end, for a portrait of a child, use as much light as you can and adjust the camera accordingly (lower iso or increase aperture number...). Hope this helps!
