I posted these in the "Share Your Shots" thread, and I just found this thread. I just thought I would share them here as well. I shot these last night:

Shutter: 2 sec.

Shutter: 9 sec.

Shutter: 10 sec.

Shutter: 12 sec.

The rest of the EXIF information applies to all the pictures. I was shooting in full manual with the shutter set on bulb so I could adjust most settings once and only have to worry about the shutter. The rest of the EXIF data is:
Focal Length: 21mm
Aperture: f/11.0
ISO Speed: 100

It was my very first time shooting fireworks, but I was pretty happy with the results of my first attempt. There is another fireworks show in a little over a week. I'm going to shoot at that one as well. Practice makes perfect better.

Was I in the ideal spot? No, not really. I made the best out of where I was, making sure I could still enjoy the show while getting in a few decent shots

Saw the twitter message about posting our fireworks photos and figured I'd finally get around to actually posting here rather than just lurking. Fireworks are one of my favorite topics, and my most 'famous' image is of fireworks:
Red White and Blue Fireworks on Flickr - Photo Sharing!

In fact, just this week this image was chosen by Smithsonian Magazine as their picture of the week!
Picture of the Week--Fireworks | Surprising Science

This year I had a lot of fun and got some good sharp images, but was a bit further back so they are pretty but not as dramatic. This is probably the best of them:

Full sets here:
Atlantic Highlands, NJ:

Kaboom over the Navesink, Red Bank NJ:

Last Year's Best:

The best from two years ago:

Thanks for letting this first time poster ramble a bit! And thanks DPS for all the great information!

A friend of mine told me that fireworks shots were being requested, and so I figured I'd contribute one of my favorites from this year. It's somewhat different, as you'll see...

Civil War Meets Chinese Gunpowder
Civil War Meets Chinese Gunpowder by Skorobeus on Zooomr

What you have there is a Civil War era "Hale" Rocket Launcher (one of a handful of originals left on the planet) being used to fire some run of the mill amateur fireworks.

(Yes, that's a real cannon in the background, yes we fired it and yes I have photos)

The flash was used to expose the lower portion of the frame and the shutter was held open until the rocket reported (about 4 seconds overall).

The EXIF data is available on the linked page, for the interested.

Hey mws547! If you weren't in California, I'd swear we were shooting from the same place! I, however, was in Texas at Lake Grapevine. It was my first time shooting fireworks in manual on my Nikon D40, and I am just so so so so happy with the results. My only regret is that I had my 15-55mm lens on the camera -- I think something a little tighter (my 55-200mm) would have been terribly useful, but it was dark and I didn't want to fumble around with expensive toys while sitting on the beach with no flashlight.

Here's my favorite:

FIREWORKS&FATHERSDAY-WEB-9504

Exposure Time = 41 second
ISO Speed Ratings = 200
Aperture = F16
Focal Length = 550/10 mm = 55 mm

The camera was on a tripod, and I was using an open shutter with a remote. There are a few more more on my blog.

PS: I'm here because of the Tweet, too. This will be the first photo I've posted on the DPS forums. Wheeee!
