Default What do I do about movement in photos?

I have been trying to take pictures of events - inside - light is fairly good. But when the people move - I have not been able to determine what settings to use to etiher stop the motion or the not blur the whole picture.

Any suggestions?

I have a Nikon D90

You need a faster shutter speed. You could either use shutter priority mode and leave the camera to take care of ISO and aperture settings or take full control with manual mode - the latter way is the path to understanding what options you do have for mixing the different settings.

1. To freeze motion fast shutter speed,
2. To freeze subject and blur all else-slow shutter speed and pan
3. To blur all slow shutter speed

It may not be your camera; it may be the lens you're using. Every lens has a maximum aperture. To do available light shooting (i.e., indoors without a flash), you typically want a lens with a maximum aperture of f/2.8 or wider. For example, the 18-55 VR kit lens is limited to f/5.6 @55mm. So, even with a very high iso setting, you may still not be able to get the shutter speed you need to freeze the action.

If you don't want to get a faster lens, then another alternative is to use flash.
