Default Can it be saved?

I took some photos that are dark but when I lighten them and set them to full size there is a lot of noise. Can they be saved or are they no good? I would really hate to throw them away!

Thank you in advance.

Oh I forgot to mention I am using paint.net and gimp right now.

Depends on what format the images were taken in, RAW or JPEG, if Jpeg they can only be cleaned up so much (if its a virgin jpeg, meaning straight out of the camera, save it as a tiff so you can work on it non-destructively), RAW will give you some more leeway but neither format will allow removel of noise without losing something. You could run it through a noise reducing program like noise ninja but understand they remove noise by bluring the image somewhat..some examples would help as well
