Default How to get all faces in focus in a group of three?

Here is an example practice I did with stuff animals. This is the pose I will use on the group of three and I want their faces to all be in focus while using only available light.

Photobucket

D90
50mm
ISO 3200
1/200
f/3.2
+5.0EV-auto,A3,0

then I tried using a smaller aperture to get more in focus and this below is what I got which didn't seem to have worked.

Photobucket

D90
50mm
ISO 3200
1/40
f/8
+5.0-auto,A3,0

Will this problem be solved when I get my sb-600 and bounce the flash for more light on the subjects faces?

Thanks!

Step back and get good focus and then try. If you can, get them closer to the light source.

I shot this with a 50mm @ f/3.2 ISO 400 1/100 SS and only used the light from the window behind me. I moved the couch closer to the window.

If you do use your flash, make certain to bounce it off the ceiling. Here's one I did using my external flash...

Thank you so much! Maybe my available light was way too low. I had to turn my ISO all the way up and I needed a small aperture but yet at them same time to bring more light in. Your photos are great!!
