Vinko, I took my D90 out last night and managed to capture this one

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3605/...f76b675739.jpg

Camera: Nikon D90
Exposure: 0.2 sec (1/5)
Aperture: f/32.0
Focal Length: 200 mm
Focal Length: 201.6 mm
Exposure Bias: -1 EV
Flash: No Flash
Exposure Program: Manual
Active D- Lighting: High
ISO: 100
ISOExpansion: Lo 1.0
Lens: 55-200mm f/4-5.6
Shooting Mode: Delay

I am only new to this so I can not give you to many tips, other than to keep shooting and changing the settings remembering the 3 factors that impact on your shot.

It took me about 35 shots to get it dialed in to at least see the detail on the moon. In my case it was a very bright moon so turning up the ISO did not help as I thought it would. As you can see I ended up turning the ISO right down to the lowest setting ??

Cheers

Jason

Focal length will certainly help , something from around the 300mm mark will get some pretty good moon shots that show good detail , using a tripod and a remote shutter release will also go a long way to eliminate camera shake , the longer the focal length and slower the shutter speed the more motion blur that will be evident in yr shots . I like the fact you got the ring around it nice work . All the best

Long lens is a plus, but if you have a really bright full moon you can shoot them fast. I've shot them up to 1/2500 back when all I had was my D80. Shot this one last full moon we had. Tripod, and cable release were used.

Camera: Nikon D300
Exposure: 0.001 sec (1/800)
Aperture: f/5.6
Focal Length: 420 mm
ISO Speed: 200
Exposure Program: Manual

No matter what lens you use you won't be able to expose your first shot so the clouds are as you have them but stil including the detail in the moon you want. The moon is actually very bright so you will need a double exposure and photoshop. If you also want the moon larger in the frame you will need a longer lens.
