Default Backlighting and blindness

In using my gold reflector yesterday… I think my kids need laser eye surgery after I burned theor retinas with the reflector.
Ok, that’s a sligh exaggeration.

Something I did notice was that they were squinting a heck of allot, sure the gold was very bright. i noticed it because they were telling me "its too briiiiiight"

Heres the link to the 3 that I liked the most.
3 kids and a Golden afternoon

How do you moderate the intensity of the fill light (I was backlighting as you can see) AND get enough fill ??
I tried moving the reflector back, but that didn’t really stop the squint factor.

Any tips or hints???

I thought of putting a piece of curtain “meshy stuff” I think its called lace over the front of the reflector to reduce the glare.. but *shrug*
I couldn’t seem to get a happy medium. Enough fill without squinting.

Admittedly, the light was direct and harsh, no shade.
To the edge lighting on the back/sides of the heads is from the direct sunlight, the fill was from the reflector.
You can see how bright it was by how dark the background is.

A layer or two of thule (bridal veil stuff, it is super cheap) will cut down on the glare a bit. Is your new reflector flexible? If so you might want to try bending the edges back a bit to spread out the reflected light which will help to reduce it's intensity.

Bounce it off something else

Either another reflector or the ground or something.
