Default First Sports

Today[I] my friends and I were playing basketball at one of their houses' driveway, and when it was my time to sit out I decided to take some pictures. These were my first sports photographs, and I'm looking for some tips on what I should do better next time. Any advice/compliment/criticism appreciated. These were the ones I liked the most.

All of these were shot on a Canon Rebel XSi (450D) with the kit lense.

I really loved this shot, but I was pretty annoyed at not getting more at the top of the image. D:

Yeah, it's the same guy in all the pictures. Everyone else just looked kind of dumb playing. He was the only one that looked "natural", lol. It was around sunset time, so I had to change my manual settings a few times.

Take care with your backgrounds. The background of your shots are very busy and therefore distract from the main subject of the shots. Either recompose to eliminate the background or try to use a shallow depth of field to blur the distacting elements.

Thank you for the comment, and yeah... the background is pretty busy. It was on my friend's driveway, and the only lens I have right now is the one that came with the camera, so it's a bit hard to get the background blurred. I tried to convince them to go to a nearby court, but they didn't want to drive, lol. I'll try to get them to go next time.
