PS: I've just seen the local weather. Gales from the SW and rain. Wind getting up to 35 mph on the headland I was heading to. Damn! Doesn't look like I'll be getting any shots then!

I ran across an article about a total lunar eclipse coming early Tuesday morning. Mostly visible in North America.
It's unlikely that I will drag myself out of bed for this event, but I thought perhapse some of you might. Here's the details: http://sunearth.gsfc.nasa.gov/eclips...2007Aug28.html I hope that some of you wake up and take some spectacular photos and post them here! ![]() Perhapse other folks will post tips for taking those spectacular photos: Lens recommendations, settings, etc.

Even worse - it's foggy this morning!! So I suppose that it is just going to get burnt off in time for the cloud to come rolling through...

A little bit of interesting information...
During a lunar eclipse, the moon often turns red. This is because the sun is directly behind the earth (from the moon's point of view), and all of the light reaching the moon is coming through the earth's atmosphere. This tints the light red, just for the same reasons that sunsets are tinged red. And since it is this light reaching the moon, the moon is effectively being lit with a red gel. :P Can you imagine how stunning it would be to stand on the moon during a lunar eclipse, look up at the Earth and see it ringed by fire?

It's started! As I write this, the Earth's shadow is starting to creep across the moon's disk!
