Default Having trouble on post processing with a Lily

I am working with gimp to try and get the colors to look right on this shot of a Lily in a vase. It was taken under indoor lighting, and the plant itself is yellow, so the shots came out with everything looking yellowish. Even with the flash I got a yellowish picture. Also as far as the actual flower goes, the yellow is just not as bright as it is in person.

Anyway, I tried to work on it in GIMP and here is what I got.
032
Before

032_1
after

Camera: Canon EOS Digital Rebel XSi
Exposure: 0.017 sec (1/60)
Aperture: f/9.0
Focal Length: 39 mm
ISO Speed: 800
Exposure Bias: 0 EV
Flash: On
Spot metering

Im not really satisfied with this, but I like the composition of the shot. I think its a white balance issue that perhaps I can correct and retake the picture i dunno. Thoughs?

Hiyas Jprime

Since this is the Share your shot section of the forum, rules prohibit us from offering too much critque ( there's another section for that ) But I think a little constructive feedback within the rules might help

I would try changing the picture style first..one reason you should shoot in RAW and covert after you make the raw adjustments, it is much easier to make changes then once it's a jpeg.

Sometimes just changing the picture style or a small levels adjustment is enough to bring a shot back to how it should look. I hope it was helpful and I am not going to get the Hammer of justice from the Mods

I like your photo, it's a well formed compostion, warm colors and interesting details.. thanks for showing it

Vin

Just moved this over to the "Other Technique" area so hopefully you can get some feedback about the white balance issue and even some tips about post-processing it so that you get that sort of natural looking effect you were after.

Exactly how are you doing this shot? What is the exact set up?

Are you using a tripod?

Is the flower vase near a window? Does it get good light through it?

Do you have an external hot shoe flash/Speedlite?

Are you shooting in JPEG or RAW?

What shooting mode are you using? Are you comfortable shooting in manual?
