Default Desperate Camera mount/tripod

The other day I found my self wanting to take a picture of myself and some of my friends in the snow. not wanting to put the camera anywhere near the ground I hooked the strap of my D200 over a nearby branch, and looped it under the lens (24-120mm, so it was long enough to fit the strap)
I was not expecting much, but I focused up, set it for a 30 second timer to get rid of any movement that would occur after I hit the shutter, and ran into place.
Turned out it worked great on the first go. No blur and was able to adjust the strap in such a way to get it pointed right where I wanted.

Does anyone else have any interesting makeshift mount/tripod solutions?

Its been posted in the DIY section, but I made a string monopod for my camera.
I bought a 1/4'' key screw (which is the size of the thread in the both of the camera), drilled a hole in the top, and knotted the string around that. Then at the other end (The ground side) I tied it to a flat metal piece with 3 holes in it (not exactly sure what it is used for normally) glued it down and then wrapped it with electrical tape.

I stand on the end on the ground then pull the camera taught and it seems to work pretty well. Then you can just wind it up and put it in your pocket.
