...or words of encouragement.
My sister and I have the opportunity to photography a hospital before its grand opening. It's not a job. It's just for experience in photographing a commercial building. I hope to get one or two shots for start a portfolio for...just in case But I get what I get and I know it's really a learning opportunity. We are shooting tomorrow for a few hours. Forcast: Overcast in the morn, cloudy the rest of the day 90% chance of rain. Nixes exterior of the building and lighting coming in the windows will be terrible. I wrote my self lists of equipment and obligatory shots: camera body, tripod, foot stool (I'm short), coffee filters and rubber bands, battery charger, 1 xD and 3 CF cards Lenses - 50, 14-40 kit, 70-200, filters, lens cleaner/cloth, the only hot shoe flash that I have, and duct tape...I don't know, but I'm sure it will come in handy for some reason or another. Obligatory shots of the staircase, windows, interesting architectural features like detailed moulding, patterns in the structure, and the hospital logo, wide angle (not really with my lenses but I'll try and fake it) of the lobby/waiting rooms. Pics of equipment in xray, lab, OR. I know that I want to exploit angles below my eye level. I should probably get pictures of a patient room and any plant life that might be in the building (ie indoor garden), pictures of signs. I'm hoping they have little beds already set up in the viewing room in the maternity ward. If the hospital has a dedicated ward named after some generous donor I'll get a picture of the entrance....I don't know what else. I've been researching on photographing commercial buildings since I found out about this opportunity. I've taken some experimental shots in my house although its not the same. I've looked at numerous examples, and while I'm pretty sure I'll get pictures that are generic that could have come from any hospital, I also want pictures that are specific to that facility. Could you all tell me what I have missed in my preparations? I want to make the most out of this learning experience. Thank you to everyone in advance. Mahree
