Default How to link camera to computer for immediate viewing

I attended a seminar where the presenter explained various lighting techniques. His presentation showed him taking a photography that then immediately came up on the screen of his laptop. It didn't look like the same downloading process - there wasn't any intermediate steps. I tried to set this up and try some still life photography but was unable to accomplish the same computer linkage. Is there special software or am I just not make the correct computer connections? Also, I tried to Goggle this and found nothing. What am I not understanding?

Any help is greatly appreciated,
Shelley

What sort of camera do you have? Mine came with software to do it, I think it was EOS Utility, though I'm not on my computer to check.

zespri, thank you so much for responding, I have a Nikon Coolpix P4 point and shoot. I will look at the disk that came with it. I am guessing my camera is not that sophisticated.

It is called teathering the camera. There are programs that you can get to allow you to do it. I am not sure it will work with a Nikon Coolpix.... Some programs that will allow you to shoot teathered is Adobe Lightroom2 or TeatherPro. There are others out there some free ones too but I cant remember the sites off the top of my head.
