The only thing I can add is that I think your shutter speed was slightly too fast on the propeller planes. You've managed to freeze the props, which makes them look like they aren't turning.. Try about 1 stop slower.. 1/2000s and you might get a little motion blur on them.. Enough to see them, but not to freeze them.. The planes themselves would be frozen at 1/500 or above. Can't hurt, with a lovely blue sky like that, to make the aperture 1stop smaller and increase you DoF

Otherwise a nice set.

I like that the props have been frozen, especially on the Spitfires. Viewed all of the images on flickr looking forward to more. Cheers

my only complaint about the frozen props is that they start to make the planes look like models. There's no movement in the photos so you get no idea of speed.. You might as wel take a photo of the planes on the ground.. Surely the point of photographing a plane in the air is that you give an idea of movement?

By the way, I don't see any problem in including a small amount of land to give the photo a sense of place.

Frankly I don't think they look like models, but I'll agree land would be good ..a little difficult to achieve unless there's a crash. ..errr we don't want that

I agree with Jon. IF you can get some land or smoke from rear of the aircraft in the scene it does help.

Now that you have plenty of pics, why not play around with some panning too.

A tight crop can be helpful also.

Thanks SwissJon, Vincent & HCH, I have got quite a few with smoke and land which I haven't uploaded yet but I'll be trying to capture more of that today, I have a bit of time now to look around me a bit more, yesterday I was stuck to the fence with eyes looking upwards and left & right. Will be dropping the ss too SwissJon Today it's a quite a lot more cloudy although I think it will burn off later.

Thanks for this post, FKG. We're going to the air show at Ohakea in March, I'll employ the tips mentioned here.
Cool shots you got - but I have to say the Strikemaster looks ridiculous dressed up as a V can...

I guess money talks! Yes I must admit it does look rather weird.

I'm home now, 2 hrs before the today's finish, to beat the traffic and to get out of the sun, it's a scorcher out there and very windy. But I've come home with a major problem, I'm not sure what yet but I stopped at the local marina to grab a shot I've been meaning to do for awhile and just as the shutter clicked the view finder picture(thru the eye piece) stuttered, I got to see 1/2 the shot and then it went black. No view through the eye piece or the the live view screen. Won't even take a "point & shoot and hope for the best shot". No flat battery and I let it cool down(been clicking all day) but still nothing, oh dear, sounds expensive.... (luckily it didn't happen yesterday before the show!

With big thanks to the helpful guys on here, it's a stuck mirror and needs to go in for a service.

That means I'll be without it for at least two weeks! Guess I'll have to use my point & shoot for the assignments, lets see if I can work wonders with that!
