Default Deep Sky Stacker

I read the tutorial on astrophotography by jgomez.

I followed all the instructions on obtaining the images to the letter.

I downloaded/intalled the software. I put five consecutive shots and selected them in the software. I used the default settings as reccomended. I then get an error message that only 1 of the 5 will be stacked and I need to change the "threshold" for the program to pick up the stars. When I select "threshold" it gives me a box to fill in a number. I have no clue.

Any suggestions?

That has happened to me when my stack did not either have enough bright sharp stars (on all images) or they just did not line up (register).

Deep Sky Stacker comes with a pretty good pdf manual.

Ah nice. This is very interesting. I've long been trying to pull off a good galaxy shot and often end up with the blah picture you see at the start. It doesnt look like you could get the good shot without stacking, so i'll have to try and get some frames tonight, and try it out.

Sorry I wont be able to help you, but i'll give this a go tonight and see what happens

I guess I'll try again. I'll use my 50mm and shoot at f2.8 and boost the ISO to 1600. The next question is since I have a crop sensor I guess I need to account for that as the 50mm will really be closer to 100mm? To maintain the 600/focal length then I will only have about 10 seconds per capture instead of the 22 sec per shot at f 3.5 and 24mm. But again I'll gain sensitivity with the increased ISO. I'll also use the same lens I originally shot with and boost the ISO again.

Just gotta play around with it I guess. I'll keep you all informed. I'll be editing any completed stack in LR also.
