perhaps you could use side lighting to cast interesting shadows and photograph the shadows interacting with objects rather than the actual figures.

hard shadows distracts the main subject, I don't think that's good composition. Hmm, how about the avatar climbing up a christmas tree for gifts with ladder LOL

He has done nice lighting.. at least for me.
Are the avatars killing themselves? hahahaha..

I think you should fill in the frame. The horizontal line of the apple (1st pic) is quite distracting for me, why don't use a large piece of paper so that it does not have horizontal line?

Instead of killing yourself in the iceball, why not walking on the iceball... Don't always kill yourself ok? You can even push the iceball. lift the ice ball, throw the ice ball towards others like superman.. etc etc.. You need see more cartoon to figure out hahha

Tito, Let's assume that we all try to simply answer the question asked with something helpful and leave judgement out of it unless asked, yeah? I'm picking on you right now Tito, but these non-helpful answers by many of us laterly (and let's be honest if your intent was to be helpful you'd say what you said, plus actually answering the question) are something I'm going to do my best to eliminate. Seen too much jumping on folks unnecessarily lately.

EDIT: Tito you typically ARE helpful.. just didn't want you to think I'm calling you out.. you just happened to be the thread I got fed up with.. much worse out there.

To OP
Considered doing something with time-lapse?
I did something with IKEA puppets once.

Tito, I'm not trying to be mean, but there's nothing wrong with her asking for ideas from us.
That's what we're all here for, to help each other out, and to learn. If no one ever got ideas or advice from anyone else, we wouldn't learn near as much.

I'm taking a photography class, and one of the assignment entails to pick a specific object(s) and place it/them in different situations. For my project, I have chosen these tiny figurine people and have various shots. Here are some I've taken:
...
Now I'm stumped for ideas! I want to do something with nice christmas lights bokeh (or any type of bokeh in general) for the background and have a creative story with these miniatures in the foreground, but I'm really stuck for ideas. If anyone has any ideas for a creative or story, I would really appreciate it. I will post the results. Thanks in advance! I reaally need help!
To roxthefox, I love that first pic...made me laugh so hard!

The Christmas idea sounds really neat to me. Here are a few ideas that I came up with to help you out:
  • Maybe have the little people wrapping giant presents, with the Christmas tree in the background. They could be standing on several books (Maybe holiday books, like 'A Christmas Carol') to reach the presents, or be sitting on top of them. They could be tangled up in the ribbons and wrapping paper, or have tape stuck to them, or be cutting the ribbon with scissors... this idea could have endless poses!

  • Or, you could have them hanging popcorn or cranberry strands on the (big) tree. Some could be standing on books to reach the branches, or some could stand on the branches of the tree. That would be a really cute idea. They could even hang up ornaments, too, if you could find some small ornaments. You can usually buy mini ornaments at most stores!

  • Another thing I thought of is, you could have them making sugar cookies! (People-sized ones, so you can tell how little the people are.) Sugar cookies are a lot of people's favorite Christmas treat.
They could be standing on a rolling pin, tasting the cookies dough, knocking over the sprinkles jar, or trying to spread icing on the cookies with their hands. The little people could even be half-covered with flour! I think this would be really cute!

  • A last thing I came up with was, you could have them making (again, people-sized!) homemade Christmas cards! They could be pouring out glitter, standing on the glue bottle, dipping a paintbrush in the paint, or drawing with crayons. You could make the card say, "Merry Christmas", and have them 'decorate' it.

And any of these ideas could have the Christmas lights bokeh in the background, like you're thinking about. I think that would make a REALLY cool effect. See, if you can come up with that great idea, you can come up with a bunch more! Get creative, and from the pictures I see here, I can tell that you have a great imagination.

Well, I hope I helped you out! I hope my answer wasn't too late...
Please post your results, whether you use any of my ideas or not. I'd really love to see them!!

Merry Christmas, a bit early!
