Question Time-lapse Photography...Please Help!

Hey there,

I'm an art and design student and my current brief is Dystopia. Our final piece has to be 15-17 second sting in dvd format (moving image), but we have to incorporate typography (the word Dystopia).

My initial idea is to film the decomposition of meat using time-lapse photography, the only problem being I have zero experience in this medium! If anyone can help out (preferably idiot-proof instructions!), i'd really appreciate it.

Thanks ever so much.

Rachel

The easiest way to do time-lapse is to use an intervalometer, which is a device that actuates the shutter once every XX seconds. Some cameras have one built in. You can search the user's manual that came with the camera to find where in the menus that option exists. For others, it's an external box that has some way of setting the timing and you connect it to your camera's remote-trigger port (if it has one).

When doing time-lapse, you'll want to set everything manually, because you don't want the camera making adjustments during the process. So, manual exposure (shutter, aperture, ISO), manual focus, manual white-balance. Make sure you use a sturdy tripod or other mount so the camera doesn't move between shots.
