I've been doing some research here and other locations about custom WB using a grey card. I'll tell you what I've generally learned and I want to know if I am on the right track.
One shoots a full frame of a grey card (provided in my LR3 book) and set as my CWB in camera, or I can shoot full frame grey card and set that as CWB in LR3 and batch WB all photos taken for that particular shoot. If out doors and the light changes, one reshoots the card and resets the CWB either in camera or LR3 and batch process. I could set a CWB in camera (or wait for PP) while indoors with consistent light and take my photos. If I then move outside I shoot the card again and set CWB for the outside if the light stays consistent. Going this route will speed up the PP by batch WB and/or give me a better SOOC WB if I set CWB in camera. Thanks!

Yeah - they'll do it. As long as your grey card is indeed neutral grey (it should be)
Lightroom will let you batch white balance settings - so all you have to do is shoot the grey card in the shot with the lighting and reshoot it when the light changes. The lightroom way works well too. It's a question of more time with custom WB in the shoot or more time with batching WB in post. |
