Default Focus Points & Exposure Calc.

Just a quick question about the metering on my camera. I know that if i use the center AF point, then in "partial" metering mode, the exposure is calculated around this point. Where is the exposure calculated from if i use one of the other points though ? Will the partial metering be centered around the AF point i use.

Canon 1000d.

Thanks.
Stu

It should meter based upon the point selected.

I'm sorry to say that this is incorrect. On Canon DSLRs, Partial and Spot metering always meter at the center — except that the 1-series models offer AF-linked Spot as an additional choice (normal Spot still meters at the center).

To a certain extent, Evaluative metering will give an AF-linked partial metering, but that's not super-helpful because Evaluative metering then goes on to determine an exposure compensation to be applied based on the entire scene.

I stand corrected (I'm a Nikon user)...
That seems pretty stupid to me. Allow off center focus but meter the center (i.e. not the subject)?
