Hello DPS,
So, A friend has asked me to make a poster for a small movie that he is directing. ( The movie is just a small action movie with about 20 friends. ). Basically, I want to have the main part of the poster say " Quest III ". And I want to have all 20 characters standing/sitting/hanging/sliding on all the letters. I am going to have a shoot. Just take a full body picture of every cast member then use paths all around the person. Then Copy and past/Scale/rotate into the back round picture. Back round picture - I have No idea what to use to make this.. I would like to have a Black back round with red 3D letters. But, Any suggestions to make this with? Also, I would like to use a Roman Numeral III...Any idea's where to make one? Also, I am using GIMP. All suggestions welcome! See you around, - Obsessedwithphotos - |

I suggest, if you want those 20 characters on the poster it may be better if you arrange them like this, to keep simple, just a thought., hope we can see your final posters |

If you're going to have some people "sitting" on letters, then you might need to shoot them sitting on something that will be relatively easy to mask out of the still that you take.
I think busy can be okay, provided you have a couple of easily recognized key graphics that catch the attention of the viewer. You have to remember, the person seeing the poster won't necessarily be right up close to it initially, so you'll need something to grab their focus and make them want to see more detail to the poster. As far as a background, if you can either do some shooting of stills on location, as Hill Country Hack suggested, or find some art that is licensed for modification and redistribution, that would probably work. As an example of something I've done before, I did a "movie poster" for a literature class I was taking. There are a couple large and recognizable elements that can be seen from afar, but as you look closer, you see more fine details. The Word Shaker | Flickr - Photo Sharing! |

OK, Thanks everyone for the input.
As far as using a shooting location for a back round - One problem is we are primarily shooting inside houses/machine shop/mansion There is only a couple outside scenes. I see trying to use a indoor location as a backdrop a problem. Provided the lighting will not be prime where we are shooting. So, I am thinking a White Backround now. To bring out the color in the costumes. So here is what I am thinking - White backround. Blood red letters. 7 Main characters sitting/standing on the letters. The rest of the cast staggered along the bottom. A quote on the top/side. A little sky on the top. I will use paths to put that in. Then Director/Producer on the side. Then our "Studio " name on the bottom inbetween lines. The "rest of the cast " standing on the top line. And maybe a tree on the side..The trunk on the side then branchs sprouting out into the image. What do you think? And still, What shoud I use to make the Text? |
