What’s Your Preference?

Hello,

A friend of mine is a firefighter. He is going to be on the crew in the pit at the NASCAR race this weekend in Charlotte, NC. He is securing for me a media pass from his Chief, so that I may document what he does as a firefighter, and with NASCAR.

I have a lot of experience photographing sports and am very comfortable with most aspects of that, but have never really done anything that might qualify as photojournalism.

Sure would love to have some good input before I go.

I use a Nikon D90, 18-55 mm lens, 75-300 mm lens.

I have shot a lot of baseball, soccer, water polo, and other sports, but have never done anything like this. I anticipate being fairly close to the pit area, although not as close as my smoke-eater friend in the fire suit. I want to capture as much about him and his crew as possible, being on guard during refueling and such, but will try to get away a bit to shoot some of the race.

Any advice?
