AEL AFL button

Can someone tell me if there is any difference in the AEL/AFL button on the back of the Nikon d90 and the one in the menu that says AE/AF lock? If I turn on the one in the menu, does that accomplish the same thing as pushing the button on back of the camera, that is, locking in focus and exposure? Thanks.

I think the menu item defines what you want the back button to do. You can select auto-exposure lock, auto-focus lock, both, etc. Once you've made that selection, then you can use the button as assigned.
