Anyone have any tips for photographing grass?
If my subject is in a big grassy area, I tend to get results of bright, neon, radioactive green grass. I understand some people like that look, but I want a more natural looking green grass color, like the way grass really looks in person. Any tips on camera settings? Am I getting this because I'm overexposing? That's what I think, but if I underexpose, then my subject is too dark. Any help on this would be great! Thanks! |

Green needs to be underexposed to look dark and rich. As the exposure on green increases, it tends toward yellow.
You have to make a choice. You have exposed the subjects well at the expense of the green grass. You could expose the grass correct, but the subjects will be dark/underexposed. If you shoot in raw, you have a little lattitude to play with. I expose my subject correctly, and let the background do what it will. Then, in Camera Raw, I usually go in and lower the luminance of the yellows (mask out skin tones) and greens. This darkens the grass/trees and makes the green look more rich green instead of yellow.
