Default What format is best for viewing photos on the net

Hi,

I am having problems with my photos, the skin tones seem to be very red or orange on other people's monitors but they are fine on my monitor. I set my white balance correctly and still no change...even in Lightroom 3 I use the automatic WB and still the same problem...I just dont know what to do.

Is there a format that I need to save my photos in for best viewing on the internet.

I've tried to calibrate my system as to how my photos are printed out and it is pretty much perfect but for viewing on the internet they are just so orange or red.

What am I doing wrong.

I hope someone can help me out here.

Thankyou.

Are you using sRGB Colour Space?

Can you please describe your workflow from camera (what colorspace is your camera set to use) through publication of the (assuming .jpg) image? I know it is obnoxious to lay it out but it is important so that we can understand.

My camera is a Nikon D80 and I've always had trouble with my photos being too red in skin tone but anyway.
I have done a couple of weddings for friends and I like the lovely pale skin tone look like all the professionals and cant seem to get it.

So the first wedding was set to:
Under Optimize Image - Portrait mode which is a preset one

the second wedding was set to:
Custom - Image sharpening - default
Tone compensation - default being 0
Color mode - Ia
Saturation - +enhanced
Hue adjustment - default 0

and the reason I put it on the custom setting is that I googled about my photos being too dull - meaning the skin tone was alright, a little reddish but all other colors not very vibrant so I put the camera on the custom setting.

Reset - default
Beep - on
AF-area mode - single area
Center AF area - normal zone
AF assist - OFF
No memory card - lock
Image review - on
ISO auto - off
Grid display - on
Viewfinder warning - on
EV step - 1/3
Exposure comp - off
Center-weighted - .8
Auto BKT set - AE
Auto BKT order - N
command dials - off
FUNC button - ISO
Illumination - on
AE-L/AF-L - AF
AE lock - off
Focus Area - off
AF area illumination - A
Built-in flash - TTL
Flash warning - on
Flash shutter speed - 1/15
Auto FP - ON
Modeling flash - Off
Monitor off - 1m
Auto meter-off - 6s
Self-timer - 2s
Remote on duration - 1m
Exp. delay mode - off
MB-D80 batteries - LR6

Image quality - Normal
Image size - Large
White Balance - Flash on the day because I used a flash both days but normally I pre set it.
ISO - as I needed it to adjust
Long exp. NR - Off
High ISO NR - Norm
Multiple exposure - off

I hope that helps.
I'm doing something wrong it seems because either I'm taking photos right or I'm too fussy but I see so much red in the skin tones all the time.

This is my flikr account and on my screen the photos look good coloring but when I look at other people's monitors they come out red or orange skin tones....So sorry about the amount of time this is probably taking. Thankyou.

If you are exporting from lightroom for further processing in CS4 (or to the web) are you setting the color space (in the file settings of the export dialogue box) to sRGB?

Also keep in mind other peoples monitors may not be calibrated properly if at all..

They don't look drastically off to me, maybe a slight magenta cast. I picked a random image from that set and pulled it into CS5, it showed sRGB, so it should display fine across all platforms. Is there one image that's particularly noticeable?

Edit: "portrait" image settings tend to emphasize the red channel over blue. To be more helpful, we still need to know more about your camera settings and workflow.

Hi. Thanks for your replies.

This photo here is straight from my camera and is set on:

Custom - Image sharpening - default
Tone compensation - default being 0
Color mode - Ia
Saturation - +enhanced
Hue adjustment - default 0

ISO 400
105mm
f6.3
1/125 sec
White Balance - Flash
Flash SB600 pointed sort of upwards so as to not go straight on the subject (I got told to do this from a wedding photographer)
The time was 7.30pm

I hope this helps. All the photos were this orange and I've really had to fiddle around with them to take out the orange and red.
DSC_0262

So what I do is put the photos into lightroom 3 and adjust the red or orange or set the white balance to Auto and it looks fine on my computer but on their computer it comes out red or orange and because I made a DVD of the images they said it was very red on their TV....Am I doing your head in yet...I'm so sorry..

So basically I'm trying to figure out the best setting for my camera for weddings for that nice even skin tone or is that all in pp. I've put my camera onto so many different settings as I google them....Portrait seems to be alright but the greens and that are a little dull...maybe I'm asking too much from my camera...maybe I'm aiming a little too high because I so want to be like the pro's and I know I have a LONG way to go but that's my dream..:-)

Sorry, but that woman is sunburned. Not the camera's fault
