Default Amazing Photos - How were these taken?

Saw this link shared of Facebook - these are amazing!!

I was just wondering if anyone has ever heard of this technique, and how do you get this kind of result, it's mind-numbingly abstract and beautiful!!!

Here y'go...

A beautiful examples of Stereographic projection // imention

EDIT:
Found someone with a partial explanation on Flickr

http://www.flickr.com/photos/sbprzd/...7594122346154/

But is anyone on DPS using this technique, I'd love to learn more than what I can glean from just these!

Brilliant - thanks!

I'd need a tonne of new software and equipment and photoshop skill* to pull something like this off! Still, it is something to aspire to!

*Are these software plug-ins even available for Elements or is it only for the CS series?

I'm not 100% sure what inkista uses (so I'll let her chime in), but you can do this in Elements. There's a link to a tutorial on it here: Panorama Planets

I am fast falling in love with this style of photography from seeing the examples linked to so far.

For a Canon 450D what sort of lens would be used? I presume a fish-eye, and you do the stitching together in computer rather than use a true 360 lens and just pivot.

I'm probably going to need a better tripod too.... good excuse to at any rate...

It's easier to do it with a fisheye, but you can do it with other lenses too. In the example I had in the last thread I linked to, there I just used an 18-55mm lens. So it's totally possible to do it with simple gear (even if it is more difficult). I just used the same technique as a standard panoramic shot.
