I was wanting to know how to get good sharp focus on the eyes of a person if you follow all the rules. I put my focus dot on the Eye and i shoot while on a monopod. What focus mode should i be in? Someone please help?

Put focus point on eye(s)
Half-press shutter (or use AF-ON)
Take picture

Assuming you're not in one of the silly camera-chooses-what-AF-points-to-use modes, your subjects eyes are now in focus.

Also, use AF-S (as opposed to AF-C) for portrait-type situations.

I just found recently that the "focus-recompose" technique that most people use is wrong.

You should manually select the AF point that's over the eye in the composition you want. Don't use the center point and then recompose; doing so actually changes the distance from eye to sensor and renders the focus plane behind the eye.

If you're using a small aperture (higher number) or a longer lens then this is less of a problem. But if you have a shorter lens and wider aperture...focus-recompose will screw up your focus.

Never had a problem, even at f/1.8 on both a 50 and 85mm lenses.
