Red face Like them or dislike them?

Hi there! I'm new to DPS and extremely happy to have found this site. I need some confidence in my work and I want to learn as much as I can. I would like anybody willing to visit my profile, view my albums and give me some good honest feedback...whether you like them or dislike them, what you like or dislike about any in particular. It would help me out conciderably. Thanks a bunch for your time!!

Hi,

I think you're on the right track with some areas but I think what's holding you back the most right now is your processing. Most of the photos in the galleries you linked to are way over-processed to the point that it's distracting and lowers the quality.

Try to process less and let more of the original shine through. Then as you improve your photography, you can bring a little artistic processing back in (but not too much).

Hi, I moved this over to the technique section. Feel free to post an individual image in critique to get some specific feedback about it, and let any of the mods or admins know if you need help.

I looked at your gallery and I should preface this with "I'm not a professional".... so take my comments as those of a complete beginner.

Senior Gallery - IMO, these are the best and your strong suit. I think the composition of these is consistently good. Although, I'm not a fan of the camera "tilt" look. I think I read somewhere this is called "Dutch Angle"? Anyhow, IMO this is best used very sparingly. But overall I think you consistently hit the mark with composition on these.

Wedding - I like the one of the couple with child on the RR tracks. The others of the bride and groom appear out of focus to me. Most of the professionals I see shooting wedding shots have the bride and groom in sharp focus.... which I think is a better look.

Maternity - Honestly.... these do nothing for me. I think there are problems with lighting and composition on these. I wish I had some advice on how to make these better but I have never tried to photograph a pregnant woman; I imagine it's a lot harder than it seems.

Babies - These don't do anything for me either. I think they have the same problems as the Maternity shots....

I really hope my comments are not seen as mean or off-base. We are all here to learn and improve right? In my completely amateur opinion, your strong suit is the Seniors and you've got some really nice shots there

I think it would help to do some research on composition.None of your shots seem to be in focus, and as mentioned, you have over-processed and it does nothing to help. What camera are you using? We also can't see your EXIF data.

Keep in mind the angles that you shoot from...there were a couple maternity shot at an angle that was not at all flattering. Of course, I am not a fan of exposed pregnant...ew...stomachs and it grosses me out that the belly button has popped out...so it might be hard to have a flattering shot of that, in my mind.

Look, look, look at photographer's website and blogs and check out how they are doing things.
