Default Question Please help

I'm not sure if this is where to post this or not.

I am certainly not a sports photographer, however I have been taking tons of shots of my daughter's volleyball team. I have a Pentax K7 with a 200 telephoto lens and I get fine shots when zoomed out where I see many girls on the court. My problem however is when zooming in where I want to get just the one girl to fill my frame spiking the ball or serving, etc. All it does it blur, blur, blur. I am also using high continuous shots and have it set to 3200 ISO.

Can anyone suggest settings where I can zoom in on one single player in action without it blurring? It is really frustrating. I am trying to get these shots of each girls for gifts. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,
Gina

would also like to add that I am using a tripod and aperture set at 4.5 which is the lowest I can go with this lens.

Sounds to me like you're shooting in a priority mode (aperture probably) and the camera is determining its own shutter speed, which is too long and leading to motion blur.

Either put the camera in manual and set the shutter/aperture yourself, or if you want to let the camera do some adjusting for you, set it to shutter priority and keep the shutter speed fast enough to eliminate the blur.

The problem you'll likely run into is with a fast enough shutter speed to stop motion, you'll end up with underexposed images if f/4.5 ISO 3200 are blurring now.

Thank you so very much for responding. I will try that tonight. Yes I did have it on priority mode and when I was zoomed out...it worked fine for me...it's just those close up shots that I'm trying to conquer now. LOL So thanks and hopefully tonight I'll get some awesome shots!

Hi,

You should probably get a flash. This is a shot of my Grandson's basketball practice. It's a little over exposed but that can be fixed.
He's not moving much in this shot but even if he was the flash would freeze the action.

EXIF:
PENTAX K200D
ISO: 1000
1/180 sec
Aperture: 5.6
Focal Length: 95mm (50 -200 f/4-5.6)
Flash Used: Yes - on camera Vivitar Series 1
