I have been attracted different types of photography styles and looks. One of which is the (I will have to call it) "washed out look". Not sure what the true name is. I see this style in family portraits. It looks as almost there is an overwhelming amount of warm light, almost gold in color.
some examples I have seen: http://inspiremebaby.com/wp-content/...01/Watson2.jpg http://inspiremebaby.com/wp-content/...iGirls-053.jpg http://inspiremebaby.com/wp-content/.../2010/12/3.jpg So my question is: Is this style done in-camera or is PP (I am sure it is a little of both)? If it is done in-camera what lens and setting is used? If done in PP, what filters or layers are used? I have a photo shoot and she like this style of portraits. I would like to do my best to achieve it. Thanks! |

All three images are backlit, creating a bit of a haze. Images are then enhanced in post, as Bruce said.

Looks a lot like LilyBlue actions to me.

It's usually a desaturation effect.

First it starts with lighting, then it comes down to the effect done in photo shop or an equivalent software. Now, actions can be expensive, but this is a site I use for great free actions. Perfect when starting out The CoffeeShop Blog
Some advice I am going to give you about actions. 90% of your focus should be on composition (how you take the photos) and 10% should be the affect you add. But the affects should only be used to enhance what you have in your photos first. Use them lightly. If you have any more questions about what I am saying here feel free to ask me.
