Default Infrared photography

I always want to try taking pictures in infrared mode, honestly I have no knowledge about it. My equipment at this moment is only my Panasonic FZ30 and hoya infrared filter (R72).

Can somebody help and teach me how to take infrared photo using infrared filter?

Thank you.

I believe that you have to permanently modify your camera, here is a wright up that may interest you. But I really am only slightly familiar with doing IR in film.

You can use your IR 72 filter for infrared photography. There sources for that in the net, just google it. The reason why others convert their cams to IR is the covenience of shooting like a conventional camera without the long exposures using a filter.

You may still have trouble, even with a filter, to get IR photos to give you much: Sensors have IR blocking filters on them and they're seemingly getting stronger and stronger. Your sensor itself may not be IR sensitive either.

Thank you Nickled for your information and YES I did find the right website about Infrared Photography tutorial and YES I will try the step/technic.

Thunder_o_b: I don't think I will modify permanently my camera yet, because I only have one at the moment and my daughter also used it.

OsmosisStudios: Thank you for your info, according to the site I read...it will work but need more works before get the result....

Also keep in mind that your panasonic has a fairly short maximum shutter speed, so you may simply run into that wall

I have a camera a bit like yours (among others) that I like to use for IR photography. The primary reason I use it is because it has "live view" which allows me to compose the image with the IR filter on the front of the lens. True, I have all the usual problems; High ISO, grain, long shutter speeds and more. My particular camera has a hot spot in the middle of the image that comes out lighter than the edges because IR light focuses different than visible light. But all of these problems can be corrected or at least mitigated in PS and the images have an "other-worldly" effect I really like. Would I like to buy one of those cameras that have been altered especially for IR? Absolutely! I would love the fast shutter speeds and fine grain they produce. Until then I will struggle along with what I have. Which, in my opinion, isn't all that bad.
