Default Slow Shutterspeed

Greetings everyone, I have a Nikon D80 that I recently tried shooting in Aperture Priority mode. My shutter speed is now extremely slow. There is a 4 to 5 second pause after pushing button.

My settings are;
ISO sensitivity: 100
AF-C
3D color matrix

I changed to these settings after purchasing a D80 DVD. I'm showing "f 11" in the window on top. As you can tell I am very inexperienced. Wondering if someone can help me?

Thanks

Read your manual.

Put down the camera for an hour and find some articles here on DPS about exposure, and t's inherent components and how they interact.

Pick up your camera again, put it in auto, and shoot a few different things. See which settings the camera picked and work out why it did it based on what you read about exposure.

Repeat and emulate.

Just to get you going, set your camera to 200 iso or a bit higher, you could get away with 400, then set your Aperture Priority to f4 or 5.6

But do read the manual.

I'm assuming you're inside? When you're outdoors, f/11 + ISO100 might be a great choice, but not indoors. Lower f/# means bigger hole to gather light. Higher ISO means higher sensitivity.

Nice! I just moved back from Syracuse. Not sure how long I'll be here, but it's where I am for the moment.

I have some family down your way.

What they said ^^

Your aperture is the size of the hole that lets light in. Small (F) number - big hole. Big (F) number - small hole. Your shutter is having to stay open longer to let enough light in.

Answer me one question. Given the info in bold. How could you reduce your shutter speed whilst in aperture mode?

Oh, this this is just too funny! I grew up in Syracuse, both my wife and I went to Nottingham High School. I graduated in 1975 and move to Cleveland.
