What metering mode do you prefer to shoot ? Can u please explain why? Does it depend on the type of photo shoot?

99% of the time it is Evaluative (Canon's terminology - may be know as matrix for other brands) possibly with some exposure compensation dialed in.
Why: Because it works for me in the photography I do.

For wide shots I use matrix, for tight shots of a specific item I will use spot.

I'm with the others....
I have the function button set to switch to spot metering so I leave my camera set to Matrix and just push the function button when I want Spot.

For general use, center weighted (with a fairly loose weighting). For landscapes it goes to Matrix metering.

i was completely unknown about metering modes and i kept shoot at spot metering. But now i have a little more idea about it and i think spot metering is better because u can get exposure as per the subject of your photo as the spot can be the subject . What kind of changes can we see in the same pic with various metering modes.
And in cases of a perfect black and perfect white background , is there any specific metering mode thats close to making the photo perfect. Because the camera sees the image as over exposed in case of white background which might result into underexposed subject and same as that it black background. |

Not an in camera mode but a method.
Incident light metering (where the light falling on the subject is measured, not the light being reflected from the subject) See the tutorial halfway down the page. Meters
