Get a Nikon MC-36 remote cord. Enjoy.

In addition to the remote cord (or wireless remote) you'll need to set your exposure mode to M and move the shutter control till you see bulb. This will allow you to open and close your shutter at whatever length of time you need. Press the shutter button to open and press again for close.

Just curious, what are you shooting that will require that long an exposure?

It may not be the OP's case, but it's the only reason I need an MC-36: My 10-stop ND filter.
