Default Raw vs raw+jpg

I have been shooting raw+jpg. Is there any real advantage including the jpg with the raw file or should I just shoot raw?

Do you use the jpeg in your workflow? If not shoot raw its pretty much down to your own routine its different for everyone no right or wrong way.

Are you on a tight time frame to get your pics to an editor for publication?
If so then jpgs may help you meet that need.

It's useful if you want to do most of your "post processing" in camera by using custom settings (i.e. contrast, saturation, D-lighting, B/W, etc) but you also want a RAW version "just-in-case".

Yeah, there are certainly reasons to use the jpeg... or to shoot nothing BUT jpegs. Or, to shoot nothing but RAW. It depends entirely on what you do, and what your constraints are. What DO you do, and what kinds of restrictions or constraints (time, especially) do you have?

Thanks for the opinions. Being new at this I am trying to learn PP and am using the raw files. I do wish I had a publisher wanting photos right now. I'll either shoot raw or move the jpgs to storage.

Thanks

Hello Reed, I have discovered that by shooting raw+jpg that I can use the jpg for comparison as I am processing the raw images. I just work at it untill the raw image looks as good or better than the jpg. I use lightroom 3 which has a reset button. Pressing it will undo everything and take you back to the original raw image so that you can start fresh. And since I have been asked to take photos at a couple company functions it is definitely easier to have the jpgs. That way I don't have to process 150-200 images taken on Saturday afternoon so that I can give them to IT at 8AM Monday.

I use raw+jpg when I know I want the pics fast. For example - family vacations. My wife wants to get home or back to hotel room and upload the pics to facebook without a lot of time spent dithering around with them. They are 640x480 facebook images - Im not that concerned about them looking perfect. I'll pick the ones I really like later and work on them before printing or turning them into a photo book. Same thing at work - a lot of time I just need something quick and dirty for a file, it doesnt have to look like art, just a documetation of what I saw. I might want to play around with it later though, and the raw files are nice to have.
