Default Curious as to how to achieve this type of portrait..

Hi, I'm new to this site and have been learning a lot from it. The one thing I can't seen to find any info on is how to achieve that sort of sunny day, washed out look that are typically taken in a field. I was wondering if anyone had any tips that could help me out?

Here's an example from a photographer who's work I love that shows what I mean...

I don't have a real DSLR, but its as close to one as I can afford right now. lol. I have a Canon Powershot S5 is. It does the trick for now but hoping to upgrade soon.

This is all editing. It's a colour process.

If you have Photoshop or Elements, go to CoffeeShop Free PS/PSE Actions! and look at her actions. She's got some vintage ones that give this effect.
