Default Black & White with Colors

Hello,

I'm still new to photography, and I'm wondering if someone can tell me how to take a pic B&W with one more color.
To make is simple, example of taking a portrait in B&W but keeping the lipsticks for ex in red.
I have a Nikon D90, so is it a functionality in the camera, or it has to be done on a software?

Thank you.

The information you seek could be called "selective color" It can't be done in camera on the D90 as far as I'm aware. (search for selective color using the search button above) Welcome!

I do this in photoshop... You start with a color photo, then go to layers>new adjustment layer>black & white. (Just click ok, then make any adjustments you want, then ok again.) This will make a "mask" over your photo. To let the colors show through, you simply pick an appropriate sized paint brush, and use it to paint black anywhere you want to see the color!

Hope this helps!

Another Photoshop method:
1) Select whatever you want to stay in color (Magic wand works nicely for this)
2) Select>Inverse which will select everything except the color you want to keep.
3) Image>Adjustments>Hue/Saturation, and drop saturation to -100.

That's how I did this picture

Default HI

U can take a pic B&W with one more color. For that you should use adobe photoshop or gimp. Thereby U can create more picture with basic black and white color with one or more color.

Lets try......

A little rough, but all I did was run a black and white adjustment layer with tint and then eliminate sections of the layer I didn't want in a sepia tone.

I really prefer doing this kind of adjustment in Aperture because its much simpler. Most of the time, it works just fine, every now and then you may have a photo that it doesn't quite get right.

1. Open your photo and get in the Adjustments Column.
2. Scroll down and if the "Color" option isn't already showing, then open it by dropping down the + box and selecting "Color" or (ctrl+C)
3. You can then select any color and adjust its Hue, Saturation, Luminance, and Range.

Really easy, hope that makes sense!

I think my picture attached...but I accomplished its color scheme in Aperture.
