Default Which Focus Mode to use?

I use the Nikon D5000, which, like the D90, has 11 focus points. It has the option for focus modes: Spot, Dynamic, Auto or 3D Tracking.

Up until recently, I've used 3D tracking, and moved my focus point to the right or left around the 11 points to compose my shot. Sometimes, I'll use my focus point, lock focus, then reframe my shot.

My question is... is 3D tracking the best to use for portraits? Or would Spot be better? I'm worried about my focus point straying or moving as I move or my subject moves.

Which do you typically use when you're doing portraits? Spot, Dynamic, Auto or 3D Tracking?

for portraits? SPOT focus...more specifically, compose the shot and choose the focus point that overlays the part of the image you want critically sharp (more accurate than focus and reframe)
