Hi,
I do a lot of sports photography, both outdoors and indoors. Due to limited lighting for indoor photography, I use a 1/200 shutter speed and bump my iso up to 800. I know usually people shoot with 1/500 or even 1/1000 to freeze motion, but my type of sport, the motion is a lot slower. My question is, if I shoot handheld with my 24-105mm f/4 at 1/200, does IS do anything? Recently I read that IS slows down the time taken between focusing and shutter activation, which is bad for sport when you want to capture the moment as fast as possible. So it seems that it's more beneficial to have IS off for sports photography right? Cheers |

At 1/200s, IS will make a difference. I've never had a problem with shutter lag due to VR, YMMV.

I have, but only above 1/500. Didn't make a huge impact on my images, though.

1/500 excedes VR/IS effectiveness anyway though. Better off deactivating it.

Which is pretty much what the manual says. The only reason to at those speeds is to stabilize the viewfinder.

I do like the smoother viewfinder.
