On my Nikon D60, what settings are optimal (or a good starting point) for photographing lightning? I tried it last night but the photos came out very grainy. I used a tripod and a remote shutter release to take them. My settings were: manual mode, f22, 3 seconds shutter, ISO400, matrix metering, manual focus (infinity).
If anyone has links to some good tutorials, please do post them.

It seems backwards but you actually want to use a low ISO like 100.
A while back I posted an extensive response to someone asking for lightning photo advice, this may help you: Lightning pictures |

One question: does active dynamic lighting have any affect on this type of photo? Will it hinder the camera's performance?...ok, that was two...LOL!
