Default Custom Settings

Can you save settings you like for say outside and sunny, in house with flash, cloudy day, dark gloomy day etc.......If you can do this can you name them then go to a list in the camera and pick the one you want everytime.........I have been searching for this over and over but just can't seem to find if you can or can't.

I have some settings I like for different times and lighting and was just wondering if this can be done in the D5000 which would make it easy for a beginner like me...........

Thank you

And I did search this site but nothing comes up so I thought I would post it...

Thanks
Art

Afraid not, you just have to remember them. You could always write them down and keep them in your camera bag. However, remember that no two situations are exactly the same. You are better off remembering a few rules of thumb and using them to adapt to the situation at hand. You can always make use of the D5000's Auto Bracketing to help you get the right shot.

There is one rule you might find handy called the 'Sunny 16 Rule'. If you have a nice sunny day, set your aperture to f/16 and your shutter speed to the reciprocal of your ISO, e.g. if your ISO is 200, set your shutter speed to 1/200. You will generally get good exposures.

You can adapt this slightly to different conditions, for example if the sky is cloudy there will be less light so you would open the aperture to f/11 or f/8.

You can make your own picture controls to alter colour, sharpness and contrast for your JPEGs but these have no bearing on actual aperture/shutter speed/ISO settings.
