Default Moving Camera, Still subject

Hello everyone,

I'm new to this site and photography, and was wondering if there is a guide or any tips when it comes to taking a shot of (for example) a person walking whilst you are in a car moving. All my searches so far have come up with opposite positions (still camera, moving subject).

Thanks for any and all help.

It's essentially the same, actually. In either case you're having to compensate for one object moving and the other not. Unless you're using an insanely high shutter speed, learn how to pan with your subject.

As Osmosis says, this is essentially panning. You'll want a shutter speed of around 1/60 and an aperture of about f/11, though this will depend on your lighting. Ideally your camera should have continuous autofocus that will keep the subject in focus all the way through your pan. Focus on your subject early, then smoothly track them in the viewfinder as you/they pass. To increase your chances of a good result, use continuous shooting mode and take a few shots at a time.

The other option, if you want to minimise the panning effect, is to use a very fast shutter, but this will obviously limit the light coming in so you will need at the very least a high ISO and/or a wide open aperture. Even then, if you're shooting in poor light the results will likely not be up to much.
